Planning Hidden Power Inside Cabinetry
Concealing a cable should make a space easier to use—not make a connection inaccessible or hide an unsuitable installation.
List the devices and how they will be used
Separate low-power device charging from heat-producing tools and countertop appliances. Record the actual device requirements from its label or instructions. A convenient USB port is not automatically capable of charging every laptop at the rate you expect. For USB-C, check the charger’s supported power delivery and the cable requirements for the device.
Map the movement before drilling
For a charging drawer, sketch its closed and fully extended positions. Use a purpose-designed system with a documented cable-management path. Check the cabinet depth, drawer-box depth, rear clearance and movement of adjacent drawers. An ordinary power strip with a loose extension cord through the back is not a substitute for a listed drawer-power system.
Keep a service route
Decide how the connection, power unit and mounting fasteners can be reached later. Avoid a design that requires removing a countertop to replace a charger. Concealed does not have to mean sealed: a planned, removable access panel can be less disruptive than an improvised opening after installation.
Show the installer where water, sink plumbing, cleaning supplies and heat-producing devices will be. Do not assume a kitchen-rated or dry-location product is suitable for a vanity or damp area.
Give the electrician a clear brief
Provide the device list, exact power-system documentation, intended location and cabinet drawings. Ask the qualified electrician to determine circuit capacity, required protection, disconnect or shutoff provisions and code compliance. Do not treat a sensor or interlock as a universal safety guarantee; confirm what it actually does and its permitted use.
RayArt view: choose the access and cable path while the cabinetry can still be adjusted. The visual payoff comes from a tidy working installation, not from hiding an unresolved electrical problem.
